The Wikipedia Adventure[edit]

Hello! In the story page of the The Wikipedia Adventure you are listed as a Participant. Do you know who the developers of the original Wikipedia Adventure are? Jakel181 (talk) 13:48, 2 December 2019 (UTC)

I had talked to Worm That Turned and they pointed me to you! So I will explain further. I am a member of the Scratch Wiki and we are trying to create our own Scratch Wiki Adventure. What extensions did you use to make The Wikipedia Adventure? Thanks Jakel181 (talk) 16:06, 2 December 2019 (UTC)
Hi @Jakel181: that's very exciting. The key extension is called Guided Tours: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:GuidedTour. If you need technical help, the main developer was Matt Flaschen (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Mattflaschen). You can also see how the was implemented on 7 other language versions of Wikipedia: https://outreach.wikimedia.org/wiki/The_Wikipedia_Adventure. Good luck! If you need to reach me, email is even better: jorlowitz@gmail.com. Cheers, Jake Ocaasi t | c 17:47, 2 December 2019 (UTC)
Thank you so much!Jakel181 (talk) 17:52, 2 December 2019 (UTC)
Hi @Ocaasi:, I have one more question, what did you use to create the automatic messages on the users "talk"?Jakel181 (talk) 00:49, 3 December 2019 (UTC)
Hey @Jakel181: that's actually just some fancy Guided Tours code that triggers an edit using the api. You can see the first level's code here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki:Guidedtour-tour-twa1.js Cheers, Jake Ocaasi t | c 23:10, 6 December 2019 (UTC)
Thank you! 14:07, 9 December 2019 (UTC) Jakel181 (talk) 18:24, 9 December 2019 (UTC)

@Jakel181: speaking of which, here's an index of every page related to TWA: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:The_Wikipedia_Adventure/Index Cheers, Ocaasi t | c 18:31, 9 December 2019 (UTC)

Thanks Again! All of this really helps out! :D Jakel181 (talk) 18:33, 9 December 2019 (UTC)

TWA/Portal and The Wikipedia Adventure[edit]

Hey Ocaasi,

What is the point of having both Wikipedia:The Wikipedia Adventure and Wikipedia:TWA/Portal along with their respective talk pages? From what I can see the pages are basically the same and serve the exact same purpose.BrandonXLF (talk) 19:35, 6 December 2019 (UTC)

Hey @BrandonXLF: basically one is 'in game' (the portal), and one is 'out game', like the difference between English Wikipedia and Meta-wiki. The portal is supposed to feel in-universe, whereas the base talk page is supposed to be more plain and external to the experience. Hope that helps! Jake Ocaasi t | c 23:13, 6 December 2019 (UTC)
I see. In that case shouldn't Wikipedia:The Wikipedia Adventure be more of a page that explains what TWA is and feel less in-game? Right now it feels just as in-game as the portal as it transcludes the portal right at the top. BrandonXLF (talk) 23:23, 6 December 2019 (UTC)
If consistency was the only goal, sure. But the goal is getting people to play so sending them to a sub-page is harder to find. At the bottom of WP:TWA are links that do indeed explain the game in detail. Cheers, Ocaasi t | c 23:33, 6 December 2019 (UTC)
